What a triathlon is

A triathlon is three sports in one race — swim, then bike, then run, back to back, with two timed transitions in between. The sprint distance — a 750m swim, 20K bike, and 5K run — makes the sport more accessible than most people think.

The swim start is exciting and chaotic but finds a rhythm fast; the bike course is usually quiet; the run brings the crowds and the finish line. Beyond fitness, the transitions between disciplines are their own skill.
