The format

What adventure racing is

Adventure racing combines several disciplines — trekking, running, mountain biking, and paddling — with navigation by map and compass between checkpoints over a single course. Events range from a few-hour sprint to multi-day expedition races, and are commonly raced in teams.

Because navigation is part of the challenge, route choice and decision-making matter alongside fitness, and there is not always a marked course to follow. The exact disciplines, distances, and team-size rules vary by event.
