From the Organizer
This event is held on a converted railroad bed to a running/walking/biking trail, named the Heritage Trail. It is an easy almost flat trail that winds through a tree covered canopy along the side of the Little Maquoketa River with bluffs of limestone on the opposite side. There are two timed running events, a 5 km and a 5 mile on the same trail. The intent of the event is to raise funding for the people in need in our area. In the last 12 months St. Vincent DePaul in the Dubuque area has spent over $115,000 in rental assistance, over $28,000 in utility assistance and has put beds in over 210 households. The need is critical to continue to fund these endeavors. The registration is at 9:00 located at the Heritage Pond, located on Rupp Hollow Road at the intersection of Highway 3. Races start at 10:00. The two timed events will include the 5 km and the 5 mile run. Walking and biking are not timed but entrance can qualify for winning prizes. Over $300 in prizes will be awarded. The entrance fee for all events is $30. The bikers that donate more than the $30 entrance fee will win the prize(s). There are the possiblity of three bike routes; on the trail, on the trail towards Dubuque and downtown loop, and the hilly route to Mud Lake and back.
