From the Organizer
Massanutten is getting a major upgrade for 2027, with a true “choose your own adventure” format designed for every level of participant.
This year, we have two course options. Beginner and intermediate trekkers can complete their entire experience on the scenic Western Slope trail system, featuring flowing forest trails, steady climbs, and rugged Shenandoah terrain without the steepest descents. Once completed, all participants will be shuttled back to base camp to pick up their swag and enjoy the post-trek hang out!
For advanced participants looking for an extra challenge, an optional final segment will open up along Massanutten’s ridgeline and ski slopes, adding steeper elevation changes, bigger views, and a dramatic finish down the mountain. This advanced route is designed for experienced hikers and ruckers who want to test themselves on more technical terrain. Please note: there will be no aid stations located along this final segment, so please plan accordingly.
Also: the advanced ridgeline/ski slope option will only be available in safe weather conditions and may close in the event of rain or wet terrain.
Choose your distance: 7, 14, 21, or 28 miles, and complete in 10 hours to earn the coveted UltraTrax Grey Wolf Medal. Toss on a 10, 20, or 35-lb weighted vest or ruck and unlock bonus finisher swag + serious bragging rights. The course will be extremely well marked with fully stocked aid stations throughout!
UltraTrax Massanutten kicks off at 7am on April 17, 2027. The starting line will be open from 7am to 10am with the post-trek party starting at 11am. It is not a race, but it is a timed event and walkers will have 10 hours to complete the course. Bibs can be mailed or picked up the morning of the event. **IF YOU REGISTER AFTER 4/1/27, BIBS MUST BE PICKED UP IN PERSON. A friend or relative can pick up a bib if you can't attend. Complimentary parking is available onsite and participants will be shuttled to the start line (about a 15 minute drive). Finishers will receive a custom t-shirt, velcro patch and coveted UltraTrax Grey Wolf medal. Refreshments and food will be available for purchase after the race.
*If you signed up to carry weight, you will need to bring your own vest/backpack. We will weigh it the morning of the event. Everything counts toward the total except perishable items.
