The loop is mostly trail — about 80% — with a sprinkle of gravel, pavement, and a dash of sand, and 380 feet of gain per lap spread across a few rolling hills on a wide, runnable surface. It is the sort of course that flatters a first ultra: nothing technical enough to hurt you, but enough terrain to make the distance feel earned.
The camping is a real part of this one, not an afterthought. Book a lakefront site through the park, or take primitive tent and car camping in the adjacent parking lot right next to the course, about 150 meters from the main trailhead. Hot post-run soup, pancakes, and campfire camaraderie wait at the finish, along with music and a post-race hangout full of good vibes and great stories.

36 Hour: the three runners who complete the most loops when the clock stops will each receive a trophy. Every loop counts, so it is not about who gets to 100 first. If two runners finish the same number of loops, the one who completed that last loop first places ahead. Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K: the fastest three finishers will each receive a trophy.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each of 15 age categories will earn an age group medal — a custom piece to add to your finisher's lanyard at the end of the event. In the 36 Hour, age group places also go to the most loops completed.
This race counts toward season-long age group recognition in these three series:

From 5K to marathon, running races are an accessible entry point into endurance sport. There's a distance for every fitness level and a community at every start line.
Running off-road — dirt, singletrack, and mountain paths — from 5Ks to ultras. The terrain makes for an exciting twist and adventure in your running journey.
An ultramarathon is anything beyond the standard marathon — 50K, 50-mile, 100K, 100-mile, and timed events. Crossing the line is less about speed and more about not quitting.
