The Purple Iron 5K, presented by the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is more than a race—it is a movement with purpose.
Founded in 1939, Sigma Alpha is South Florida’s oldest chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. For more than eight decades, the chapter has remained committed to service, education, uplift, and strengthening the communities of South Florida. The Purple Iron 5K continues that proud legacy by bringing our community together around three important pillars:
SCHOLARSHIPS — Empowering Students
Investing in brighter futures by supporting scholarship opportunities that help deserving students pursue their educational goals and reach their full potential.
AWARENESS — Fighting Alzheimer’s
Raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, while promoting education, understanding, and support for individuals, families, and caregivers impacted by these conditions.
COMMUNITY — Moving Forward Together
Bringing families, friends, organizations, businesses, and neighbors together to promote health, wellness, fellowship, and a stronger South Florida community.
The name Purple Iron represents strength, endurance, and perseverance—qualities demonstrated by every runner and walker, by students working toward their dreams, and by families navigating the challenges of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
For generations, the men of Sigma Alpha have worked to make a difference through service. With the Purple Iron 5K, we invite the entire community to join us in carrying that tradition forward.
