From the Organizer
This memorial race is held in memory of Joe Mike Baker. Joe Mike lived and worked in the Sandy Bottom Community. He had many hobbies such as bowling, hunting, fishing and sports; however, he fell in love with running. At the time of his accidental death in September 2014, he was training for his first half marathon. As a tribute and to honor his memory, family and friends organized the JMB Memorial 5K and Fun Run to raise money for scholarships for high school seniors who plan to use their education to give back to their community just as Joe Mike did. Through the generous donations of the sponsors and commitment of the runners and volunteers, since 2016, the JMB Memorial 5K and Fun Run has awarded more than $34,000.00 in scholarships to 37 South Lenoir High School students.
This year’s JMB Memorial 5K and Fun Run will be held at South Lenoir High School on Saturday, November 7th at 8:00am. Please make plans to come out and run, walk or volunteer and fellowship with us as we remember Joe Mike and the wonderful things, he did for the southern Lenoir County area. Thank you in advance for your time and support of this amazing event. For more information check out our Facebook page at JMB Memorial 5K and Fun Run.
