Every year, our nation celebrates the freedom we enjoy and remembers those who sacrificed to make it possible. The Freedom Run was created around a simple idea:

What if we used the freedom we celebrate to help someone else experience theirs?

Thousands of miles away, in Jacó, Costa Rica, men, women, and children are affected by sexual exploitation and trafficking. Jacó is known around the world for its beautiful beaches and tourism—but behind that beauty is another story.

For people caught in exploitation, leaving is rarely as simple as walking away. Poverty, lack of opportunity, broken relationships, fear, and the need to survive can make a different future seem impossible.

Divergent Life exists to help change what comes next.

Our mission:

To bring hope, opportunity, and freedom to men, women, and children affected by exploitation and trafficking through the transforming power of love.

We believe freedom requires more than escaping a situation. It means having real relationships, real opportunities, practical skills, mentoring, community, and a pathway toward sustainable employment and a different future.

That is why we run.

On the weekend America celebrates its freedom, runners and walkers in McDonough will take thousands of steps for people pursuing freedom of their own.

Whether you race the 5K, walk it with friends, or bring the family for the 1-Mile Run/Walk, your miles become part of their story.

3.1 miles for runners and walkers of all ability levels.

1-Mile Run/Walk
A family-friendly option for children, families, walkers, supporters, and anyone who wants to participate in the mission.

You do not have to be a competitive runner to be part of the Freedom Run.

Run it. Walk it. Bring somebody with you.

 
💝 Beneficiary — Divergent Life
Proceeds from the Freedom Run benefit Divergent Life and its work with men, women, and children affected by exploitation and trafficking in and around Jacó, Costa Rica.

Divergent Life walks alongside people as they begin building a future beyond exploitation through:

REACH — Building relationships and meeting people where they are.

CONNECT — Developing trust, community, mentorship, discipleship, and connections to resources.

GROW — Creating pathways toward practical skills, education, employment, stability, and long-term freedom.

We don't want someone simply to survive today.

We want them to have a genuine opportunity to build tomorrow.

Registered participants will have the opportunity to receive the official First Annual Freedom Run 5K race shirt, featuring the Freedom Run design created specifically for the 2027 event.

A race-shirt guarantee deadline - Noon, June 24, 2027 (no exceptions)

A limited number of additional shirts may be available for registrations received after the guarantee deadline, but sizes and availability cannot be guaranteed.
