34th Annual Lynchburg Pediatrics Children's Run in memory of Dr John A. Stephenson

Join area youth runners of all ages (0-13) for the 34th Annual Lynchburg Pediatrics Children's Run in memory of Dr John Stephenson, presented by the Lynchburg Road Runners Club. Dr. Stephenson was one of the founding pediatricians of Richeson Drive Pediatrics; now Lynchburg Pediatrics.  He promoted healthy children and being active outside.  When he died at a young age a memorial race was started to honor his passion for promoting healthy lifestyles.

This is a unique youth running/walking race as the events are divided by age, sex, and distance. The older you are the further you go in your own gender group. Only the final 1 mile event for 12-13 year olds is gender combined. Parents may assist in the 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile. Each event does not end until the last person finishes. The intent is to provide a positive running/walking experience focused on each persons ability, every finisher receives a personalized finishers card with their name if registered by Oct. 9th and yes, the top 3 in each event get a special trophy. 

PACKET PICK UP:
Fri. Oct. 9th at Riverside Runners (2480 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA  24503), 12-6PM

Sat. Oct. 10th (RACE DAY) at Riverside Park (2238 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA  24503), 8-8:30AM

ENTRY LIMIT:
50 participants per gender per age group.

T-SHIRTS:
T-shirts are available for an additional charge of $10.00 to those registered by Monday, September 20, 2026. After this date, shirts will not be available to order. 

Race distances & age groups:

3 & under 1/8th mile,

4-5 yrs old 1/4 mile,

6-7 yrs. old 1/2 mile,

8-13 yrs. old 1 mile.

All events take place at Riverside Park, 2238 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia. Proceeds benefit the Lynchburg Road Runners Club, a 501c3 non-profit, whose mission remains to promote community health and wellness through the sport of running.  

COURSES:
Gently rolling courses (closed to traffic) winding through historic, Riverside Park (2238 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA  24503).

Lynchburg Road Runners Club Member Discount: 
A $1.00 discount is available to current Lynchburg Road Runners Club members. Discounts will not be given after Monday September 30th. Participant membership must be current with the LRRC membership roster found on RunSignUp on race day. Discount will be given at checkout automatically. Refunds and discounts will not be given after completing online race registration.

AWARDS:
All Finishers receive a  "FINISHER  Cookie"

All finishers receive a personalized finishers card with their name and distance if registered before race day.

Top 3 overall boys and girls for the 1 mile distance (all races combined) will receive a special carved trophy by Jeff Harrington at the end of the event.  
Top 3 boys and girls in each race will receive a hand carved trophy as they cross the finish line.

AGE GROUPS (BOYS & GIRLS):   3-under (1/8 mi); 4-5 (1/4 mi); 6-7 (1/2 mi); 8-9 (1 mi); 10-11 (1 mi); 12-13 (1 mi)

PARKING: Riverside Park, closed to ALL vehicular traffic (8AM to 12PM or completion of event). Please park on Rivermont Ave.

STROLLERS & PETS PROHIBITED (but you can carry your child in the 1/8 mile if needed)

REGISTRATION IS NON-REFUNDABLE & NON-TRANSFERABLE
