The event's roots stretch back to 1988 when Don Lucy, who grew up at Presbyterian Homes, now known as HumanKind, created the race as a way to give back and help raise funds and awareness for individuals, children, and families across Virginia. What started as a simple act of generosity has grown into one of Lynchburg's most anticipated holiday traditions, attracting thousands of participants and supporters each year.
