From the Organizer

☀️ HELLO, MORTALS! IT'S ME...  THE SUN . ☀️

And I'm calling you out to spend the longest day of the year on the trails at The Preserve at Lakewood. 🌅
I'll rise above the horizon at 6:30 AM sharp, and from then until I take my final bow near sunset, you'll be racing against me—and against time. ⏳
Every 2-mile lap is a chance to continue your journey. But each lap gets one minute shorter than the last. As the daylight fades, the challenge grows. Only the strongest runners will remain when evening arrives.

Welcome to My Playground🌳

The Preserve at Lakewood features 120 acres of forests, rolling grass trails, and abundant wildlife. While you're chasing your next lap, don't be surprised if a white-tailed deer, box turtle, or fox makes an appearance. 🦌🐢🦊
You'll pass through stands of red cedar and maple trees, hear mockingbirds and blue jays overhead, and experience one of Greenville's hidden outdoor gems.

Race Format

Start Time: 6:30 AM sharp ☀️
Course: 2-mile loop 🔁
All runners start each lap together. This is an elimination-style event, meaning your individual lap times are not recorded.
  • Lap 1: 45-minute cutoff
  • Lap 2: 44-minute cutoff
  • Lap 3: 43-minute cutoff.....And so on...
Each lap receives one minute less time than the previous lap.
Miss a cutoff and your race is complete. Ring the cowbell 🔔, turn in your bib, and cheer on the remaining runners.
If multiple runners survive to Lap 31, the first runner across the finish line wins.

About This Sport

Endurance Grid is here to help you understand the sport, decide if it's the right fit, and learn how to prepare. For course distances, logistics, and race-day specifics, always defer to the race organizer's event page.

The half marathon is the distance where you find out what you're actually made of. Long enough to demand real preparation. Short enough that it doesn't consume your life to train for it. Most people who run their first half describe it as the race that changed their relationship with what they're capable of. Once you cross this finish line, the bar moves. That's not a warning — that's the point.

Race day energy varies by event size, but the finish line feeling is the same regardless. Big races keep the noise going the whole way. Smaller races give you stretches where it's just you and the miles — and that solitude becomes its own kind of fuel.

The half marathon rewards people who show up for the boring training miles.

How long to train: 10–14 weeks. If you're already running consistently, 10 weeks of structured buildup is enough. If you're building from a casual base, give yourself 14.
