Welcome to Stop 15: Waggoner, home to one of the most peaceful and meaningful landmarks on the entire Mother Road: the Our Lady of the Highway Shrine. Tucked along the rural Route 66 corridor, this serene roadside sanctuary has offered travelers comfort, reflection, and protection for generations.
This stop is intentionally quieter — a moment in the series where the mission feels deeply personal. The shrine’s gentle presence, the open sky, and the countryside landscape create a setting that honors the courage of those living with ALS and the compassion of the communities who support them.
This series stands in solidarity with Enric Casacuberta, who is running the entire Illinois stretch of Route 66 solo to honor those living with ALS. At each stop, participants join Enric for a 2.1‑mile shared “Sidekick” segment — a symbolic reminder that no one travels this road alone. Waggoner offers one of the most heartfelt meet‑up points, where the quiet of the countryside meets the strength of the mission.
