Check-in & Setup: 6:00 AM | Race Start: 8:00 AM
A little luck. A lot of grit. One more loop.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day weekend with a challenge that takes determination and a willingness to keep showing up. Join Do Hard Things for the Shamruck & Run Backyard Ultra, featuring running and weighted rucking divisions in a last-person-standing format.
Whether you’re chasing a distance milestone or competing to be the last person on the course, bring your green, gather your support crew, and settle in for a day of doing hard things.
How It Works
Both divisions begin at 8:00 AM, with a new loop starting at the top of every hour. Participants must finish their division’s loop within that hour and be ready to start again at the next hourly start.
Finish early, and the remaining time is yours to rest, eat, change gear, and prepare for another loop. All loops start together at the scheduled time. Finishing early does not allow you to begin your next loop early.
If you don’t finish within the hour or aren’t ready for the next start, your race is over. The event continues until one participant remains in each division. There is no preset finishing time.
Running Division
Runners will complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour. Approximately 100 miles over 24 completed loops.
Run, walk, or combine the two. Your goal is to finish before the next hourly start and keep coming back for more.
Rucking Division
Ruckers will complete a 2.6-mile loop every hour. Approximately 100 kilometers over 24 completed loops.
Minimum required ruck weights:
Women: 20 pounds
Men: 30 pounds
Bring your own ruck and required weight.
Registration & Awards
Registration fee: $100
Registration provides entry into your chosen division, course access, and hourly lap tracking.
Participant swag and awards
Awards will recognize the last person standing in each division, with additional recognition for men’s and women’s winners.
A Dollar Per Loop. A Reason to Keep Going.
In addition to registration, participants will contribute $1 to the race jar before each loop. Bring enough dollar bills for the distance you hope to cover and a few extra in case you surprise yourself.
POT SPLIT: Half of each division’s race jar goes to its last-person-standing winner, with the other half donated to the veterans organization linked below.

Set Up Your Base Camp
Check-in opens at 6:30 AM, allowing time to set up your personal camp and transition area before the 8:00 AM start.
Plan to be self-supported. Bring your own food, hydration, electrolytes, and anything else you need to stay comfortable between loops. A chair, shelter, extra layers, spare socks, foot care supplies, and lighting for after dark are recommended.
Cooper’s Landing amenities will be available according to the venue’s operating hours and policies. Plan ahead for your personal needs throughout the event.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Your Goal. Your Next Loop.
You don’t have to run all day and night to take on this challenge. Come with a personal goal, test your limits, and share the course with people choosing to do the same.
Wear your green. Bring your grit. Earn your next start.
