Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run

2025 Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run - Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Sam Peden Community Park at 9:00AM

Grab your favorite pair of sneakers and join us at our 5th Annual Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run, a community-wide, family friendly event. Proceeds from the Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run go toward purchasing food for over 2000 NAFCS preK - 6th grade children in need on the weekends, when school meal programs are unavailable. Race with your family, your friends, or your co-workers and together, we can serve hungry children in our community one step at a time. 

The Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run is open to all abilities and is not a timed event. You can walk, jog, run, or stroll the course at your own pace along the paved path around the lake at Sam Peden Community Park. 

Each participant in the Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run will receive a finishers medal and an Official Be A Blessing Race Shirt.(while supplies last)  To guarantee your shirt size, you must be registered by Wednesday, October 8th.

Race with your family, your friends, or your co-workers and together, we can serve hungry children in our community one step at a time.

Once you have registered, we will create a personalized fundraising page just for you! You can make your page even more special by adding photos or information about why you have chosen to fundraise for Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County.

Your fundraising page will have its own a unique Event ID to make it easy to reach your contacts and ask for their support. Your friends and family can support you and hungry kids in our community from the comfort of their couch.

Can't make it on race day but still want to fundraise to help feed local kids, not a problem. Click the DONATE button on the main menu and click BECOME A FUNDRAISER.

100% of all donations go to covering the cost of the food that is provided to children weekly, and the individual raising the most money will win an award!

About Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County

Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County is an initiative of New Albany Floyd County Education Foundation dedicated to alleviating childhood hunger in Floyd County, Indiana.

Just under 1 in 6 Floyd County children face food insecurity. When school dismisses on Friday, 38% of NAFCS pre-k through 6th grade students would leave their classroom unsure of whether they will have enough to eat until school starts again next Monday, if not for the work of Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County.

Through donations from local individuals and companies, Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County is able to ensure that students in need don’t go hungry over the weekend and can return to school ready to learn. Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County serves children at all 9 NAFCS elementary schools and the 3 middle schools in our district.

Awards

Finisher medals will be awarded to all participants. (while supplies last)

Top Individual Fundraiser: The individual raising the most funds for Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County will win an award. Funds need to be through our race website or turned in at Packet Pick-up, October 23rd, to be eligible.

Largest Team Award: The award will go to the team with the most registered members. In order to win, your teammates need to be registered prior to race day. Online registration closes Thursday October 22, 2026 at 11:59PM.

Packet Pick-Up

Friday, October 23, 2025  from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at:

Race Day

If you were unable to attend packet pick-up, you can pick up your packet at registration booth starting 7:30AM.

You can register the morning of the race, but we will only be able to take cash or check. Race Day registration prices are $40 for adults and $20 for kids 18 an under. Shirts and shirt sizes will only be available while supplies last.

Photo Release

By registering & participating in the Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run, you consent to photographs/videos of you to be used for promotional purposes by Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County.

Cancellation & Refund Policy 

A little rain won’t stop us! We will only delay for lightning.

If the in-person race is canceled due to severe weather, an announcement will be made via facebook for the morning of the race. All registered participants will automatically become virtual runners and we will set a date for you to pick up your medal.
