Why We Walk
We walk to raise much-needed funds to support the community outreach programs of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego. These outreach programs are aimed at raising awareness of ovarian cancer, the most lethal gynecologic cancer. Currently, there is no screening test for the early detection of ovarian cancer, and the overall 5-year survival rate is only 45%. However, when detected early, the survival rate is over 90%! Funds raised at this event will be used to support education and outreach to the general public, civic groups, organizations and medical healthcare providers throughout San Diego County. In addition to supporting our primary educational outreach program HEAR , we are continuing our successful program to provide financial support to Medical Fellows at UCSD School of Medicine with an emphasis on gynecological oncology.
