From the Organizer
The annual swim honors the efforts of our lifeguards and raises funds to support East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue's mission to make expedient and safe water rescues year-round in all East End waters.
Races start at 5:30pm. Online registrants should check-in by 5:00pm. Day of registrants will be able to register from 4pm to 5pm. Online registration will close at midnight on September 4. We are providing official timing services through PR Timing.
EHVOR's certified ocean lifeguards will protect all swimmers at this event.
What the heck is a Red Devil? The red “Speedo-type” bathing suit often associated with male lifeguards and the culture of lifeguarding has long been nicknamed the “Red Devil.” While not all rescue swimmers on East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue (EHVOR) wear the “Red Devil,” we are all certified ocean lifeguards, and we all embrace the lifeguarding culture and responsibility that comes with being a lifeguard. As Big John Ryan likes to say: “We are lifeguards for life!”

From Endurance Grid
Endurance Grid is here to help you understand the sport, decide if it's the right fit, and learn how to prepare. For course distances, logistics, and race-day specifics, always defer to the race organizer's event page.
Swimming events drop you into something that demands navigation, feel, and focus all at once. It's a sport that rewards the quietly competitive — the ones who do the work in the water before anyone's watching.
Open water races from 1 mile to marathon distance. Just you, the water, and whatever you've got left.
