Fun Run 5K benefiting Recovery Café Muncie!
Mary’s Miles is a 5K and fundraising event geared at supporting holistic recovery for those in need, ending taboos, and creating a community that lifts us all up. Partnered with Recovery Café Muncie’s mission to support development of the mind, body, and spirit of individuals desiring recovery, the mission of Mary’s Miles is to raise awareness about Recovery Café Muncie, gather funds for its quality no-cost recovery programming, and help struggling community members discover this vital resource and create a beautiful life in recovery.
This will be a self-timed race on the White River Greenway, with the start and finish line in Westside Park. Trophies designed by local artist Denise King will be awarded to the top male, female, and non-binary finishers. There will also be awards for Best Costume, Best Good Doggo, and Best Team. After the race, there will be food options, artisan vendors, non-profit vendors, activities, kids' games, and a silent auction in Westside Park. Please join the fun!
Mary Phillips Maxwell was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and more. She was an extraordinarily talented multimedia artist, singer, and musician. She loved nature, classic movies, the Oregon coast, Scottish Terriers, and The Beach Boys. She had the biggest smile and the most contagious laugh. She was kind to people and animals, generous, funny, creative, and courageous. She was her daughter’s, Erin’s, biggest fan. Nobody cheered louder at diving meets, band concerts, and competitions than Mary. Mary always said that the best thing she ever created was her daughter, and her daughter never doubted she meant it. Mary was also in chronic pain for years. Opioids were prescribed to end the pain. Unfortunately, a different kind of pain began that lasted for decades and resulted in her death. Part of Mary’s legacy is about transcending that pain and suffering and helping to end the suffering of others. Whether new to recovery, moving through a difficult transition, returning to recovery, experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, or homelessness, or are now wanting to give back in service to others—Recovery Café Muncie welcomes all to join in recovering their true, authentic self!
