From the Organizer
The Hickory Hustle 5K & 10K Run and Kids Run is back for 2026! Join us in Colfax, Indiana during Ole Hickory Days beginning with a fish fry on Friday, July 31st and continuing Saturday, August 1st, 2026. The 5K and 10K on Saturday, August 1st begins at 8:30am and includes a Kids Run beginning at 9:00am. All participants who sign up by July 12th are guaranteed a shirt.
The theme of the race this year is in memory of Joe Buedel, a long time resident of Colfax, an Elder and Youth Leader at Colfax Christian Church and a member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT. Joe had been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) which is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord and in July of 2025, after a long fight with ALS, Joe went home to be with his Lord and Savior. The Fire Department wants to bring awareness to ALS and support the Buedel family, specifically his wife who survives him. The Fire Department also wants to honor the life and legacy of Joe and the time and sacrifice he dedicated to the Fire Department as a Firefighter/EMT.
All race proceeds and donations will benefit the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Buedel Family. Our course is mostly flat and includes a portion of the Big 4 Trail. Runners can register race day morning at the Perry Twp Vol Fire Dept located at 103 W. Main St in Colfax. The starting line is at Fire Station. The finish line is down the street at Colfax Christian Church, 314 S. Clark St.
Following the race hang around and race participants can enjoy a free breakfast at Colfax Christian Church. Breakfast donations are welcome and go to Dorcas Ladies.

From Endurance Grid
Endurance Grid is here to help you understand the sport, decide if it's the right fit, and learn how to prepare. For course distances, logistics, and race-day specifics, always defer to the race organizer's event page.
The 10K is the distance where running stops feeling like a starting point and starts feeling like a sport. Long enough to require a real training block. Short enough that race day is fully manageable for a first-timer who's put in the work.
Race day energy at a 10K is community at its best — strangers cheering you by name, people moving toward the same goal, an atmosphere that solo training can't replicate. It's fast enough that you'll spend the whole race pushing rather than managing your effort.
This is also the distance that builds the base for everything else. Most athletes who go on to run half marathons, do triathlons, or compete in HYROX started here. What you need: running shoes fitted to your stride, a training plan, and the race on your calendar. The registration is what makes the deadline real.
How long to train: 4–8 weeks for most fitness levels.
From 5K to marathon, running races are the most accessible entry point into endurance sport. There's a distance for every fitness level and a community at every start line.
