From the Organizer
On August 16th, we celebrate the life of Harper Stantz with two great events. The first begins at 9:30 a.m. with Harper's 10K and 2-person relay races, followed at 1:00 p.m. with Harper's Music Festival at Recreation Park in Binghamton*.
Since 2017, this race has delivered a quality 10K event to the running community. In 2019, we dedicated the race in memory of Harper Stantz, the 16-year-old daughter of Marty and Patty Stantz of Binghamton, NY.
This year we are teaming with the music festival team to provide an epic post-race party including food and music for runners to enjoy.
The Race:
Race time is 9:30 am with a mass (group) start format. The race venue has been changed for 2026 and has moved to Recreation Park. The course is mostly flat and fast; with an incline in the 6th mile then immediately rewarded with a long, gradual downhill to the finish. The first leg of the relay is 3.2 miles, the second leg is 3.0 miles. This allows the relay exchange to be located at the corner near Rec Park.
The Swag:
Be sure to register by midnight July 27th to receive the race t-shirt, with a locally designed Harper 10K logo.
The Awards:
10K Race:
Danielle Vick Studios pottery will be awarded to these categories:
· Top 3 Male and Female finishers in the Open division - Custom pottery
· Top Male and Female in the Student division – Custom mugs
· Top 10 Age-graded Male and Female finishers – Custom mugs
Relay Race:

· Open: Men, Women, Mixed

From Endurance Grid
Endurance Grid is here to help you understand the sport, decide if it's the right fit, and learn how to prepare. For course distances, logistics, and race-day specifics, always defer to the race organizer's event page.
The 10K is the distance where running stops feeling like a starting point and starts feeling like a sport. Long enough to require a real training block. Short enough that race day is fully manageable for a first-timer who's put in the work.
Race day energy at a 10K is community at its best — strangers cheering you by name, people moving toward the same goal, an atmosphere that solo training can't replicate. It's fast enough that you'll spend the whole race pushing rather than managing your effort.
This is also the distance that builds the base for everything else. Most athletes who go on to run half marathons, do triathlons, or compete in HYROX started here. What you need: running shoes fitted to your stride, a training plan, and the race on your calendar. The registration is what makes the deadline real.
How long to train: 4–8 weeks for most fitness levels.
From 5K to marathon, running races are the most accessible entry point into endurance sport. There's a distance for every fitness level and a community at every start line.
