From the Organizer
Every summer, dozens of Camp Menominee campers and counselors gather together on the last Sunday of Camp for "Doc's Run". Years ago, camp doctor Ken "Doc" Miller was on his annual visit to Menominee and wanted to start getting in shape. So he started to walk around camp. That walk eventually turned into a jog, which then became a run as his endurance grew. Each day he would go out for a run, and eventually he took that run off-campus. His favorite path was one that began at the corner of County Roads O and D and ended at Menominee's basketball courts. It was 4.5 miles of joy. He loved the serenity of his morning run which takes you over the Wisconsin River at the 1 mile mark, winds up and around to a perfect rest/water stop at 2-miles, let's you wave hello to the girls camp just before mile 3, and tricks you into thinking you are close to the finish line when you turn on County D...but you still have 1.5 miles left!
Over time, the counselors and campers started joining Doc on his run and it became an annual tradition at Camp. In 2021, we saw over 100 participants (the most ever) in Doc's run! We had runners, walkers, and people on roller blades do their best to complete the 4.5 miles. In 2022 we decided to run for a cause, and raised close to $12,000 for camp charities. We bested that in 2023, as we saw over 130 runners and raised close to $18,000. In 2024 and 2025 we raised close to $25,000 each race year, and we are hoping to beat that mark this summer!
In 2026, we hope to continue this tradition, and expand it! While we run and walk down County O and D on Sunday August 2, 2026, we encourage our entire camp community to run/walk 4.5 miles wherever you are and be a part of Doc's Run with us! As always, this run/walk supports camp scholarship funds, the Nate Wasserman Camp Fund and Camp for All Kids. We hope that your campers run/walk this summer at Menominee, and that you do the same wherever you live! You can sign up to be a participant and start raising money today! All participants will get a special Doc's Run 2026 shirt of course, and help send campers to camp next summer!
