What is KCNA2 Epilepsy?
KCNA2 epilepsy is a rare neurological disorder caused by variations in the KCNA2 gene, which controls the Kv1.2 potassium channel in the brain. These channels act like gates that help neurons send and receive electrical signals. When the KCNA2 gate isn’t working properly, the brain’s electrical system becomes unstable, leading to seizures, movement disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral conditions.
