From the Organizer

Hello young athletes and family members.  We are super excited to host the Youth Track and Field camp this week and have over 170 athletes joining us. With so many young athletes, we want to make sure we do a great job of dividing our K-5th and 6-9th grade athletes. Alexandra Berto will be the point person for elementary athletes during camp. And I will take the lead with our middle school athletes. We have some of our super star alumni/college athletes and over 25 of our SSHS T&F/XC athletes that will be helping to coach and mentor at camp this week. These athletes took time off of work to dedicate their week to help coach and mentor your young athletes. Super cool, right?!?

First aid/medical - We are so privileged to have Stephanie Stefanelli, MS, ATC, Steamboat Springs High School Certified Athletic Trainer, provide safety and medical care during camp.  Please bring any important medications (inhaler, epipen, etc.) and give to Stephanie and please do email us at Ltumminello@msn.com and sstephanelli@ssk12.org before Monday morning with any special considerations that we should be aware of during camp. Thank you!

Please feel free to email with any other special considerations for your young athlete.  We really do appreciate understanding how we can make this week great for your young athlete. And please do not hesitate to reach out throughout the week. We'd love to know how they are feeling, how to bolster their confidence and answer any questions or concerns.  You may email me at Ltumminello@msn.com or call or text at 720-339-6924. You may also email  Alexandra Berto at Aberto@fca.org or call 720-838-4216. It would be great if you make note of our phone numbers during camp, in case we need to ring for any reason. Thank you

Monday morning details:

Drop off/registration - 8:45-9:00 am. We will have check in lines for K-5th and 6-9th. We will hand out t-shirts on Monday morning and ask that athletes where them on Thursday. Parents, please feel free to be with us on the field at 9am when we talk to the athletes for a few minutes about the week and get them sorted into groups.

Location - Gardner Stadium at Steamboat Springs High School, 45 Maple Street Parking. We do have restrooms available in Gardner Stadium.

Camp times - 9am-11am (Monday-Wednesday), 9am-11:30am (Thursday T&F meet)

Camp T-Shirts - We will plan to hand out camp t-shirts on Monday morning. If you could send a backpack with your athletes, then they can be placed safely in their belongings. If you need to trade sizes, then we will just make sure all the other athletes get their sizes first and then can certainly do so, pending extras that are available. We placed the t-shirt order after the deadline for preferred sizes on May 18th and made some best guesses about additional T-shirt sizes. So we will make sure our early registration athletes are set. We would love for the athletes to all wear their shirts for the Track and Field meet Thursday.

What to bring - water bottle (clearly marked with name on it), snacks that your athlete would like to have during breaks, rain jacket if needed, and sunscreen. We will have popsicles at the end each day, plus lots of water.  With some athletes having special allergy considerations, it would be best if you send a favorite snack for your child to eat. They work hard and get hungry quickly.

Emergency numbers - please make sure to write down your telephone number where you can be reached during camp on Tuesday at drop off. We do have a registration list with telephone contacts but often those are different during camp. Also if your young athlete is going home with another guardian, if you can make note on the sign in sheet, that would be great. And if you would like for us to keep your athlete with us until you sign them out, you may email Lisa Renee in advance. Thank you

Track & Field meet - Family members, if you can join us on Thursday for our Track and Field meet (9:15am - 11:30am), which always proves to be incredible as athletes rotate through the 100m Dash, Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Throws and Speed and Agility, with team relays to finish the meet. If you are coming from work or other, then arriving by 10:45am for relays and awards would be great!

Media - Typically Steamboat Radio will come for our Track and Field meet on Thursday. We will also post pictures on our team Facebook page “ Steamboat Springs Youth Track & Field”. Also new for 2026, we are using a team app to easily post updates and cool photos. You may visit sportsYou.com on your computer, phone or tablet. Or you may download the “Sports You” app, tap create account, and enter the access code “2MM3-S6DE”.

Thank you all.  We will run, jump and throw this week, all in the name of FUN! And check out the discount code for the super cool Chicknlegs shorts, which are a favorite amongst T&F athletes across the country.

Gratefully,

Lisa Renee and SSHS Coaches/Alumni/Athletes

Hello Steamboat Springs Track and Field community. We are so excited for our Youth Track and Field camp to return this summer. . Camp will be Monday - Thursday, starting June 8th from 9:00am - 11:00am at Gardner Stadium (45 Maple Street). A fun Track & Field meet will be held Thursday, June 11th 9-11:30AM, so that friends and family members can watch the athletes shine.

This camp will introduce kids to Track and Field events. Kids can run, jump, & throw....while having an action packed week of pure fun and expert coaching.  We will work on team relays, starting blocks (even for the littles), high jump, hurdles, long jump, and a modified throws event. Our amazing SSHS Track and Field/Cross Country athletes and coaches will help to coach and mentor the young athletes at camp. The camp will consist of two groups. K-5th grade will be broken into appropriate age based groups, to maximize their fun and learning. The middle school group will be incoming 6-9th graders.  This group will work on specific techniques for events, but in a fun environment. Each day the athletes will get to watch the high school athletes (and some of our returning college athletes) provide demonstrations of their own events, such as Pole Vault, High Jump, Shot Put, Hurdles and more.

For athletes who pre-register by Monday, May 18th, we will offer a camp t-shirt with your preferred size.  After that date, we will have a some extras (not necessarily the correct size) to share. Athletes will also receive awards during the Thursday meet and snacks during camp.

Donation to Ukraine Youth Camps: As with last year, at least $5.00 of each registration will be donated to help provide youth camps in Ukraine this summer, where many children have lost homes, family and the opportunity to for many sporting activities. Our camp director, Lisa Renee, and her husband Doug have traveled to Ukraine seven different times since the full scale invasion. And both Lisa Renee and Coach Alexandra plan to travel to Ukraine in July, introducing Track and Field to the athletes there. It will be an honor to make a donation in the name of Steamboat Springs Youth Track and Field and each one of our athletes here. Additionally, our coaches and staff have a heart for helping any young Steamboat athletes attend camp, if finances would prevent them from attending.
