From the Organizer

This isn’t just a walk—it’s a movement.

Join us for Break the Chains: A Walk for Cult Recovery, a powerful virtual walk/run honoring the courage, resilience, and strength it takes to break free from coercive control and cultic abuse.

Whether you’re walking in honor of a survivor, raising awareness in your community, or celebrating your own journey of freedom—every step you take helps shed light on the realities of cultic abuse and the healing that follows.

Over the course of six weeks (one week before August, throughout International Cult Awareness Month (ICAM), and one week after), we’ll walk together—virtually but united. Each week, participants will receive empowering content including survivor stories, educational tools, inspiring challenges, and calls to action.

💥 Your registration includes:

  •  A digital race bib to print and wear proudly
  •  Weekly themed content to keep you motivated and learning
  •  A downloadable chain-breaking progress tracker
  •  Optional access to exclusive campaign merch
  •  A certificate of completion to honor your commitment

No matter where you are in the world, you can help raise awareness, honor survivors, and be part of breaking the cycle.

  • All paces and mobility devices welcome (walking, rolling, treadmill, etc.)
  • No GPS tracking or time submission required
  • Content and activities will be screen-reader accessible and inclusive in language and design

How far is the race? That's up to you and your capabilities. Take it as far as you'd like! Here are some suggestions:

  • 4 Miles for 4 Weeks of Awareness - A short but powerful tribute to each week of Cult Awareness Month.
  • 10 Miles to Represent the Average Years in a Cult - Or choose a number that reflects your story—or that of someone you walk for.
  • 26.2 Miles (Marathon of Liberation) - For those who want to take on a bold challenge in honor of long-term recovery.
  • Freedom Your Way – Custom Race - Set your own distance, pace, and purpose. Every step counts.

Walk with us. Learn with us. Break the chains.

Hosted by The Freedom Train Project, Incorporated, a nonprofit dedicated to helping survivors recover from coercive control and cultic abuse, this virtual walk/run is more than just an event—it’s a movement for awareness, healing, and hope.
