25th Annual Bare Bones 5K & Fun Run at Overton Elementary School - Presented by Cathy Griffin, Century 21 Towne & Country with a complimentary ice cream for all participants sponsored by Novant Health Rowan - Aqua14 Ice Cream truck (see pictures of ice cream choices below)!
Since the first Bare Bones race, the Salisbury Rowan Runners have tried to give back a quality race to the surrounding running community. We work hard to hold the entry fee down, yet still provide a quality experience on race day. We appreciate all runners and walkers who attend our various race events during the year. Thank you!!! Bare Bones will be held in conjunction with Salisbury Parks & Recreation.
Course (see course map below) -
Half Mile Fun Run: Will be an out and back on the greenway.
5K Course: The course starts at Overton at approximately 1900 West Park Drive. The start is at the second driveway to the school, the one nearest the baseball field. Runners will go southwest on West Park to a turnaround which is at approximately 1635 West Park Rd, then runners will come back toward the school and then turn right at Hickory Drive, left on E. Park Road, right on W. Park Road, enter Greenway, along the Greenway to Prescott Drive, turn left on Prescott, turn right on Knollwood, turn left on Courtland Drive, turn left on Wake, turn right back onto Prescott. Proceed to end of Prescott, turn around at cul-de-sac and proceed back straight on Prescott and turn right on the Greenway back toward Overton. Turn left on E. Park Road, left on Hickory Drive then continue straight across West Park to the finish line beside the nearest pole on the breezeway at Overton.

Fun run - Top 3 Overall
Ice Cream - Each 5k and fun run participant will be rewarded with a free ICE CREAM for all participants sponsored by Novant Health Rowan - Aqua14 Ice Cream truck (see pictures of ice cream choices below). Spectators may purchase ice cream.
Door Prizes - Door prizes include $25 gift certificates from Dick's Sporting Goods & more to come!
Got several pairs of old running shoes (or any kind of shoes) just sitting in your closet? Well, bring them to us on race day, and we will give them a new life. We will find them a new home by donating them to Rowan County's needy through Rowan Helping Ministries. It will help them and give you a cleaner closet too!
Finish Line Video - All runners and walkers will have an individual finish line video available online after the race.
Race-Day Registration ($35-5k & $10-Fun Run) & Check-In / Packet Pick Up: 7:30 a.m. - 8:25 a.m. Check-in will be at Overton Elementary School.
Race Director - Wayne Crowder, one of the best runners ever in North Carolina, will serve again as race director. Back in person this year, Wayne has graciously cleared his calendar to be with us in person. This will be the 13th consecutive year that Wayne has managed the Bare Bones 5K and Fun Run, one of the county’s oldest races. To participants and spectators, he has also granted at least 30 photo opportunities at no charge. Wayne will be near the finish line during the races, so stop by and get a photo and an autograph!
All proceeds benefit Relay for Life, a community based fundraising event of the American Cancer Society and donated shoes will be given to Rowan Helping Ministries, a not-for-profit volunteer-based corporation which operates human service programs to assist the economically disadvantaged.
