From the Organizer

Join us for a historic 10K Road Race along the Oswego River starting in Phoenix NY.  This race had a huge following in the mid 80's through early 90's, and we'll stick with the original course.  It's flat, fast, and beautiful as it runs along the Oswego River for the entire loop course.  You'll start at North Island at Lock 1 and immediately cross the Oswego River on the Phoenix Bridge.  You'll then run north on Pendergast Road, glimpsing the river between open fields, woods, and homes along the way.  At the half way point you'll turn right to make a second crossing of at the single lane Hinmansville Bridge built in 1915.  A short jaunt through the woods on a packed dirt road will connect you to River Road to run back into the village of Phoenix and a finish at Lock 1.  This is a great course for first-time 10K runners or fast 10K runners looking to post a PR.  It would also be a great prep race for your fall half marathon or marathon.  The race will be professionally timed by Leone Timing.

Post race festivities and awards will be at Henley Park on the Oswego River.  Runners can look forward to a pizza collaboration between sponsors Independent Pizza and Angry Pig BBQ, something sweet from Jennerations Bakery, and more!

Register before EOD on May 17th for a chance to win an illumiNITE glow in the dark running hat.  Pictured here: IllumiNITE Unisex Reflective Cap.

Earlybird registration just $40 through April 14, 2026!  Race fee will increase to $45 on April 15th, and $50 three weeks prior to the race.

Funds raised will go toward supporting the Schroeppel Historical Society.  For information about sponsorship opportunities, please review our sponsor information page and contact Kim at kimmer26.2@gmail.com.

Unfortunately, due to insurance regulations, dogs and strollers are not allowed on the race course.

About This Sport

From Endurance Grid's Founder

Endurance Grid is here to help you understand the sport, decide if it's the right fit, and learn how to prepare. For course distances, logistics, and race-day specifics, always defer to the race organizer's event page.

The 10K is the distance where running stops feeling like a starting point and starts feeling like a sport. Long enough to require a real training block. Short enough that race day is fully manageable for a first-timer who's put in the work.

Race day energy at a 10K is community at its best — strangers cheering you by name, people moving toward the same goal, an atmosphere that solo training can't replicate. It's fast enough that you'll spend the whole race pushing rather than managing your effort.

This is also the distance that builds the base for everything else. Most athletes who go on to run half marathons, do triathlons, or compete in HYROX started here. What you need: running shoes fitted to your stride, a training plan, and the race on your calendar. The registration is what makes the deadline real.

How long to train: 4–8 weeks for most fitness levels.

Running

From 5K to marathon, running races are the most accessible entry point into endurance sport. There's a distance for every fitness level and a community at every start line.
