From the Organizer
Join us and experience the new Trail to Tryon Holiday Half on our new date of December 5. Our new date offers a great run experience coupled with all the holiday beauty New Bern has to offer. Pick your distance between a half Marathon, 10K, or 5K. Strategically placed on the calendar to be your final run/walk of the year, make it a weekend and celebrate with us.
Please note, this is a road event as the name "Trail to Tryon" is just a reference to the history of New Bern as Tryon Palace was colonial North Carolina’s first official center of government. The courses will take you through New Bern’s charming downtown district, iconic waterfront parks, and beautiful residential neighborhoods. The start and finish is located on the south side the the beautiful Tryon Palace next to the Trent River. The post-race ceremony in the Bates Commons will include vendors and a festive feel to celebrate with friends and family. All finishers will receive medals and age group awards distributed in all three event distances.
All three race distances use the same start and finish location making it easy for family and friends to enjoy together. Plan to stay the night or weekend and take in the holiday festivities and eclectic food and music scenes New Bern offers.
Plan to finish your race season with a stop in New Bern for the Holiday Half, 10K and 5K on December 5.

About This Sport
Endurance Grid is here to help you understand the sport, decide if it's the right fit, and learn how to prepare. For course distances, logistics, and race-day specifics, always defer to the race organizer's event page.
The 10K is the distance where running stops feeling like a starting point and starts feeling like a sport. Long enough to require a real training block. Short enough that race day is fully manageable for a first-timer who's put in the work.
Race day energy at a 10K is community at its best — strangers cheering you by name, people moving toward the same goal, an atmosphere that solo training can't replicate. It's fast enough that you'll spend the whole race pushing rather than managing your effort.
This is also the distance that builds the base for everything else. Most athletes who go on to run half marathons, do triathlons, or compete in HYROX started here. What you need: running shoes fitted to your stride, a training plan, and the race on your calendar. The registration is what makes the deadline real.
How long to train: 4–8 weeks for most fitness levels.
From 5K to marathon, running races are the most accessible entry point into endurance sport. There's a distance for every fitness level and a community at every start line.
