From the Organizer
"Have you been wondering if you can get hill work here in Houston? Have you been looking for an affordable half marathon to run in August?"
For 0.00 dollars you get the TC Jester Half Marathon amounting to ~10 loops or 10k for ~4 loops. Finisher medals will be given as well as 1st-3rd age group awards*
This is a "fatass" (aka unofficial) half-marathon and 10k. However, that doesn't mean there won't be goodies and surprises to keep the jest of the original TC Jester Half.
This run is in honor and memory of James Tomkins who hosted the inaugural half in 2018, along with Darrin.
Route (as stated by James): You will start on the Southwest side of the TC Jester Bridge, heading north over the bridge and down the north side. The sag will be on the left downhill side as you approach the bayou. Enter the bayou, head downhill and make right turn east under TC Jester making another right hand turn taking the ramp back up to the bridge. head over the bridge southbound until you reach the bottom, take a left turn to head back under TC Jester and to the start line. For the half-marathon, you will do this ~10 times then from the start and back over the bridge one last time to the sage will complete roughly 13 miles. For the 10k, you will do this ~4 times.
We will provide water and surprise goodies. You can leave a bag at the sag if you want.
*We will not be giving away any awards of any sort. We are not responsible for your health or safety. This a punishing fun run.
And as James suggested, "bring a large towel to soak up all your tears".

About This Sport
Endurance Grid is here to help you understand the sport, decide if it's the right fit, and learn how to prepare. For course distances, logistics, and race-day specifics, always defer to the race organizer's event page.
The half marathon is the distance where you find out what you're actually made of. Long enough to demand real preparation. Short enough that it doesn't consume your life to train for it. Most people who run their first half describe it as the race that changed their relationship with what they're capable of. Once you cross this finish line, the bar moves. That's not a warning — that's the point.
Race day energy varies by event size, but the finish line feeling is the same regardless. Big races keep the noise going the whole way. Smaller races give you stretches where it's just you and the miles — and that solitude becomes its own kind of fuel.
The half marathon rewards people who show up for the boring training miles.
How long to train: 10–14 weeks. If you're already running consistently, 10 weeks of structured buildup is enough. If you're building from a casual base, give yourself 14.
From 5K to marathon, running races are the most accessible entry point into endurance sport. There's a distance for every fitness level and a community at every start line.
